I’ve worked with technology for over 50 years. From writing code for mainframes in college at the Illinois Institute of Technology, to cable and satellite TV, computer control systems, database and web development, and eventually working with PCs and laptop computers. 30 years ago, I became a computer software instructor; I’ve taught thousands of people.

I soon learned that there is more to teaching computer software than what is in most training manuals. Rather than simply follow the outline of a book, I try to asses the needs of students and teach them what they need to know. Sometimes it involves tips and techniques that are not found in textbooks.

Most computer users fall into one of three catagories; those who have taken classes, those who are self-taught and those who learned from someone who is self-taught.  Those who took classes only know the things taught in the class. And self-taught people simply don’t know a lot of the functions and techniques because these are not things that you can figure out for yourself.
